“The way we are going, in the next 2 to 3 years, we will successfully be able to contribute 70 to 75 per cent of the total makhana production in the world.”

In order to use the elephant dung, Krishna decided to add it to his compost pit along with the other biodegradable waste from his farm.

Ramesh Bariya was once neck-deep in debt and forced to work as a daily wage labourer. This method helped him turn his life around.

“In just a year’s time, I had produced almost 50 buckets of pearls that were worth upto 4.5 lakhs, giving me 3 lakhs in profit!”

“Honestly, since it was an experiment, we didn’t expect much. But after 25 days, the bags were brimming with mushrooms. Altogether, we had produced 10 kg of mushrooms in one go!”

“We get a pretty good harvest from these plants and distribute it to our neighbours for free and sometimes sell it at the market. It is a good source of income for us."
