Underprivileged children

Kanchan Sharma, a retired teacher from Jammu, has been on a mission to empower poor children by providing them with free education through her open school.

Catalysts for Social Action (CSA) and Shanti Bhavan with aid from Duroflex and The Better India is helping underserved children enjoy at least eight hours of quality sleep every night on high-quality mattresses.

Ranjan increased the gross salary of doctors to 1.2 to 1.5 times, and in turn, revolutionised the once-overlooked healthcare sector in West Singhbhum.

Today, she is the guardian angel for over 1400 women from impoverished families and also educates over 1300 underprivileged children.

After watching her father donating food and clothes to flood survivors, little Tunisha asked him, "But you did not collect schools bags, books or stationery for the children. How will they go to school now?”

"We found vagrant kids working in fishing factories, scrap yards, chai shops, shoe polish stalls and even as domestic help or ragpickers. We brought them together and sat them in a class."

"If their kids fall sick, the impoverished families do not visit even a government hospital. They fear that if they skip work for the hospital visit, they would lose the day’s wages and the entire family has to go hungry."
