Nitin Vas, Activist from Karnataka, who has developed the seed mask at his initiative Paper Seed Co, is also generating employment for villagers from Dakshina Kannada who produce these reusable masks.
Moreover, his initiative has helped around 1000 tribal households get employment. They are involved in all the processes of the project - right from procurement of material to assembling and the packaging of the product.
Running in more than 180 schools for the last year, it has collected and prevented more than 22 lakh multi-layered plastic packets/sachets from exhausting landfills!
“The machine crushes the glass bottles into sand within seconds and converts it into a valuable by-product. It also reduces its volume by almost 90 per cent.
"Paper and cloth waste are used for making decorative items, curtains, toys, cushion covers, etc. Alcohol bottles and other broken glasses are reused in the construction of buildings. We are also shredding the plastic and selling it to Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for road construction."
