Amid all the videos of Gurugram being flooded by heavy rains, this video went viral for showing a simple solution to not just avoid water logging, but also to recharge the underground water table.

To help Bengaluru save water and replenish water sources, Dr A Hariharan, founder of the Alttech Foundation, has launched the World of Water (WOW) Mission, which his a citizen-led initiative comprising 70 volunteers.

Sampath S is a 66-year-old retired banker who lives in Bengaluru. For the last six years, he has used only rainwater for his household purposes.

The 15 pits have exponentially recharged the groundwater levels of the JRN colony as well as the neighbouring ones, conserving lakhs of litres of rainwater. Best part? Per pit costed not more than Rs 7,000.

“Thousands of litres of water was just going waste even as Tamil Nadu is struggling with severe water shortage. That was my cue to do something in my personal capacity to save fresh water,” says the enterprising civil engineer. #ChennaiWaterCrisis #HarvestRain
