Meena and Harsh Mandavia's tiffin delivery service has provided over 15,000 free meals and 40,000 rotis to those who need it most during this pandemic.
For over three decades, Lavjibhai from Gujarat used his own savings to establish Gangamata Charitable Trust to feed the hungry and poor outside a hospital. Today, his nephew carries forward this hero’s legacy
“All I have felt since I have heard about them is that if every single person did whatever they could, we would have a wonderful and kind world for our children!”
“We were not able to step out from our sheds as policemen were threatening to beat us if we were found outside. My family of eight was in dire need of help, but why would anyone look at us? What identity did we have in society? We had thought that no help would be offered to us.”

“I was born in a family in Nizamabad with no financial means to support me at all. Very early on in life, I realised that I would have to fend for myself and also help my family in whatever way I could.”
The concept is simple – for every kilogram of plastic waste that a person donates, they get one kilogram of rice in return. Within days of launching this initiative, the group collected almost 400 kg of plastic waste from the town.
On asked why she named her initiative Double Roti, she answers, “Double Roti in Hindi, means bread, and in a sense, we were looking to address two issues--feed the hungry and ensure that surplus food does not go to waste.”
