Last week the Supreme Court directed the Centre to fulfill promises under the ‘Accessible India’ campaign. Meanwhile, the chief legislation for persons with disabilities is being tabled in Parliament, which holds great potential to reshape our surroundings and systems.
Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan is a nationwide campaign for achieving universal accessibility for persons with disabilities and to create an enabling and barrier free environment.
The Accessible India campaign is auditing 27 international airports and 75 railway stations to identify areas that need to be improved and made disabled-friendly by July 2016. This inclusiveness aims to give equal opportunities to some 2.68 crore differently-abled in the society.
