The Pardiwala family’s initiative to use containers for building a house is a perfect example of going eco-friendly without having to make major changes in one’s lifestyle.

Initially, the family would take weekend trips to Sakleshpur, the quaint hill station in Karnataka known for its plantations and coffee, and live in tents inside the jungle.

In a first for the hospitality sector, a plug-n-play hotel concept has been launched in Gujarat. Brainchild of Tanmay Bathwal, the portable hotel is called Beetle Smartotels. Its 141 rooms are made up of shipping containers.

Mention the words ‘ shipping container’ and one immediately thinks of large, drab, rusted and dirty metal boxes mounted on flatbed trucks or placed in container yards. This is set to change, for some containers at least, thanks to the highly creative initiative of St+art India Foundation.
