In 2021, Nupur and Sharvari Poharkar started ‘PIRUL Handicrafts’ to make useful household artefacts from pine needles found in Uttarakhand. They have employed at least 100 rural women from nearby villages like KhetiKhan, Tyarsun, Patan and more.

"Almost no one was doing anything constructive about the pine needles. We wanted to elevate this material and make something that had a potential for mass appeal."

This first-of-its-kind conservation effort is completely eco-friendly — and being done at a height of nearly 11,000 feet above sea level. #IFS #Innovation
