For almost two decades, dedicated efforts have been tackling the severe challenges of saltwater intrusion and poor hygiene, especially menstrual health, in the Sundarbans. But solving these issues isn't easy — especially in a region where every hard-earned rupee is vital for survival, making sustainable solutions even more urgent.
Prazna Foundation's Project Kishori is breaking the silence around menstruation in Rajasthan, creating safe spaces for young girls to learn about their bodies, and talk openly about their menstrual health.
"Endometriosis is a disorder in which the tissue that lines the uterus referred to as endometrium tends to grow on the ovaries, bowel, rectum, vagina or pelvic lining. The presence of the additional tissues makes the periods significantly more painful than they usually are. Addressing this can help alleviate some of the pain."
"As a woman, I can empathize with their plight. This negative mindset towards menstruation isn't limited to the illiterate, but also affluent and educated families. They don't talk about menstrual health."
