This International Day of Forests, meet eight Indian forest crusaders who are striving every day to save our thriving green covers.

Last year, an environmental revolution was quietly spreaheaded in Kottayam district as a last bid to save Meenachil and its tributaries, Meenanthara and Kodoor, whose existence had trickled down to tiny threads of polluted water.

It all began when Abbas Ali took charge of Ambalavayal police station as its new Sub-Inspector (SI) and came across the fallow plot of land.

Taking inspiration from Chipko movement of 1973, Maati Baani, an indie music duo and seasoned actor, Piyush Mishra have come together to raise awareness amidst people to save the last green patch in the concrete jungles of Mumbai and fight for our trees before it is too late.

Meet 48-year-old M Yoganathan, a bus conductor working with the Tamil Nadu State Road Transport Corporation (TNSTC), who has single-handedly planted over 1 lakh trees in the last 28 years.
