It is believed that this day brings good fortune and luck in your life. On this day, most people start a new business, buy land or jewellery and invest in something. It is also believed that initiating new beginnings on this day will bring good fortune and luck.

The Kirkatwadi Development Forum, which consists of various housing society residents and like-minded youth, mobilised citizens through Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp to join the drive.

Mylapore resident Lakshmi Narayan had been discussing a newspaper article which spoke of an initiative where people took up the task of cleaning dirty bathrooms in their village, with his supervisor, Vinod, when he was struck by an idea.

When the band members found out about what the Bengaluru-based NGO does, the two decided to collaborate in some way.

After being inspired by PM Modi's message of cleanliness, residents of the area are moving around in these cars collecting trash in their bins for proper disposal.

"A lot of people tend to blame the government for dirty spots in the city. At some point we citizens are also responsible," these changemakers say.

25 trekkers with 266 eco bags trekked for 53 km to clean Roopkund mountains. They brought down 2127 kg of garbage, which was then segregated and disposed of responsibly.
