Losing 80% mobility showed Soumita Basu how fashion excludes millions. Alongside her mother, she built ‘Zyenika’, an adaptive clothing brand restoring dignity and independence to disabled and elderly people through thoughtful, stylish design.

In a small workshop, Avishi Gupta and her Enactus DCAC team are changing lives. Partnering with over 100 people with disabilities, they’re designing adaptive clothing that goes beyond fabric — it’s about creating a space where each person can stitch their own path to independence and self-respect.

After losing her mobility to psoriatic arthritis, Kolkata-based Soumita Basu launched her startup Zyenika to provide inclusive and adaptive clothing for the disabled.

Rainna Goel (15), a class 11 student of Jamnabai Narsee International School, Mumbai has launched an adaptive clothing brand named Cur8ability. She has designed over eight types of clothes including t-shirts, pants, sarees, and dresses.

Combining form with function, Indian brands and designers have begun to explore the adaptive clothing segment for individuals with special needs.

Students and working professionals with disabilities will walk the ramp for Chennai-based fashion designer Shalini Vikasan, who has designed party wear adaptive clothing for them.
