Mumbai's Priyadarshini Park Beach had tonnes of trash on it, till citizens decided to take matters into their own hands.

Having engaged more than 10,000 young people from over 250 schools across 60 cities and 15 countries, the eighth edition is all set to take-off.

These regular citizens wanted to improve their environment, and took matters into their own hands.

Rishi Agarwal, an expert in waste management, also submitted a formal proposal to BMC, suggesting the formation of a long-term team of citizens, civic body officials, and other stakeholders, to join hands and maintain cleanliness in Mumbai's water bodies.

Concerned citizens came forward and worked almost all night and even into the early hours of the morning to clear trash off the beach.
