"Winning became so important that parents failed to consider their kid’s happiness. We need achievers but not at the cost of their childhood," says Sabari Karthik who now runs a sports enterprise to make sports accessible to school students.
From being a single parent to nurturing her ‘mother’ (the Earth) and travelling to New York to receive UNESCO award, Anasuyamma’s life is truly inspiring.
She went to live with her sister and brother-in-law but nothing could fill the void left by the death of her parents. “There is no one or nothing that can replace the love and support that your parents provide you,” she says.
“As a child, I saw more violence than love. I saw my father get drunk and beat my mother ruthlessly. I grew up believing that being aggressive and violent were normal characteristics,” informs Khushboo in a conversation with The Better India.
“I want my daughter to know that having a single parent does not mean that her family is incomplete. I want her to stand up against all the mocking, and proudly declare that she was raised by a single mother.”
A series of daunting circumstances in any person’s life can either leave them broken, or strengthen them to hit back with even more vigour. Mamta Kha chose the latter way out.
