Selfless Service

Since 1994, Dr Tapan Kumar Lahiri has donated all of his salary to the needy. Today, at 70, he lives on his pension money and continues to serve the poor. Here is his story.

Retired engineer Ashwini Kumar Mishra designed a simple brake system that prevents accidents during Puri Rath Yatra. For 16 years, he’s installed it for free, ensuring the safety of lakhs of devotees.

Mylapore resident Lakshmi Narayan had been discussing a newspaper article which spoke of an initiative where people took up the task of cleaning dirty bathrooms in their village, with his supervisor, Vinod, when he was struck by an idea.

The group consists of students, lawyers, engineers and BPO employees, who engage the children in interactive activities to stimulate their critical thinking abilities.

Former IIT Delhi professor Alok Sagar has been working selflessly for the betterment of tribals in the Betul and Hoshangabad areas of Madhya Pradesh.
