This initiative is benefitting nearly 5000 students in rural parts of Rajasthan, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. About 150 teachers are spearheading this project.
One of the main reasons why this referendum is now happening is the tragic death of 31-year-old Savita Halappanavar, an Indian origin dentist who was living in Ireland.
Savita, a 50 year old house help, was declared brain dead after an accident. At that emotionally devastating moment, her 20-year-daughter took the brave step of donating her mother's kidneys.
