In less than a year, an Indian Institute of Science (IISc) incubated startup named PathShodh Healthcare in Bengaluru has developed a portable antibody test kit that can identify COVID-19 infections and an individual’s immune response to the disease.
Shira Medtech, is a Ahmedabad-based healthcare startup founded in 2016 by Anand Parikh, a graduate of IIT-Madras. The device - Shira Clamp innovated by him is being used by 60 doctors and hospitals across India.
In 2016 after losing his close friend to a cardiac arrest, Rajat Jain along with his friends developed Spandan - a matchbox-sized portable ECG device that can detect heart abnormalities.
Once at midnight, a patient came with a serious heart attack. I had no proper equipment. There no hospital nearby and critical care was 150km away. I was scared because I knew that if he died, I would be thrown out. But then, if he was treated he had 90% chance to live, and if not, 100% chance of death. I chose the former!"
