According to an announcement by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the state assembly on Monday, the formulation of the law which will protect a person lending a helping hand to road accident victims is underway.
Under the project proposal, one of the guidelines includes forbidding the hospitals from charging any amount of medical fee from the relatives of a victim for the first 48 hours of treatment.
In May 2015, the Union Government had notified guidelines for the protection of Good Samaritans who come forward to help road accident victims. Now the Central Government has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the examination of Good Samaritans by the police or during trial.
A project under which cashless treatment will be given to road accident victims, will be launched very soon in India. As announced Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat programme, the victims will not have to worry about the cost of treatment for the first 50 hours, once the project is implemented.
