After a spate of fatal incidences Piyush Goyal, railway minister, has orders for 3600 km of tracks to be renewed - an 80 percent jump. Earlier, 2000 km of rails were renewed annually.

Railway officials said the messaging app was a 'major distraction', especially while managing train operations and hence have called for the  ban's implementation.

At first, they extended it to June 30, and then September 30. Now, passengers can enjoy service charge exemption till much longer.
