Sheetal Jain was born in India’s oldest and Mumbai’s largest red light area, Kamathipura. While her maternal grandmother was a commercial sex worker, her mother took to bar dancing to make ends meet.

Two volunteer groups have been traversing through villages in Pune to collect and preserve Veergals without any help from officials.

This survey was conducted over a span of 4 months, and representatives of the Ministry spoke to more than 60,000 citizens, to collect the data
