Keeping indoor air quality fresh and clean is an important, much-ignored solution to improve our health, more so in the face of a virus that preys on weak respiratory systems.

“When I was in grade 9, I started taking an active interest in working on issues around air pollution. I have worked with United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Delhi Metro, and also with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on various issues pertaining to the environment,” says the proactive teenager.

Recent studies have proven that it can cause a whole new range of health issues we never imagined—Alzheimer’s disease, strokes, damage to intelligence, and so on.

“Generally, it takes more than five to ten years to get a patent. However, I am lucky to get it in a year."

Every year, just before Diwali, citizens come out in large numbers to urge the government to take action and find concrete solutions to this recurring problem. The season goes, and the din created returns to the back burner.

The pollution levels in Delhi/NCR become a concern during Diwali - and then all the concern seems to vanish. I wish the alarming pollutants would also just vanish.

While this move has already got some opposition from the wood-sellers, many Vedic scholars, pundits, and the administration have backed this move.

The NEMO-AM satellite will monitor air pollutants in some of the country's most polluted cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Amritsar, and Allahabad.
