The railway ministry will launch air-conditioned trains at the beginning of next year; one AC train with around seven services daily will run on the Western Line, from Churchgate to Borivali.

After a spate of fatal incidences Piyush Goyal, railway minister, has orders for 3600 km of tracks to be renewed - an 80 percent jump. Earlier, 2000 km of rails were renewed annually.

Close to 500 trains are to have their running time knocked down to 120 minutes, via increased speed and 50 ordinary mail or express trains will soon be upgraded to ‘superfast’ services.
