Christened as the ‘robo coastal observer’ (RCO), this life-saving innovation can be operated from the shore with the assistance of a remote control.

Geo-tubes are essentially giant tubes with sediment-filled sleeves of geotextile fabric placed in a trench parallel to seashore that will check acute sea erosion, and also lessen the wrath of waves during high tides on the coasts.

Designed by the scientists at ESSO-National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), the organisation has submitted a proposal and is currently awaiting approval from the government.
