In a mere span of two years, the country has managed to increase its forest and tree cover by a whopping 8,021 sq km; the India State Forest Report 2017 released on Monday by the Environment Ministry revealed.
The first of their kind in the world, India's Ecological Task Force (ETF) battallions have fought against deforestation and ecological degradation for years.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests is going to introduce the Environmental Laws (Amendment) Bill to add violations like littering, throwing waste in the open, dumping electronic waste, defacement of public places and use of banned plastic bags to the non-cognizable criminal offense category.
