A retired eye surgeon in Kolkata, Dr Kali Prasad Saha is nurturing more than 250 plants in his terrace garden. These include grapes, guavas and sweet limes too.

Over 40 transgenders from Kolkata, Malda and North Dinajpur came together and collected relief materials and distributed them among victims in the worst affected areas in the state.

Such groups, which started in 2004 in the in Sandeshkhali-Canning area, have now found presence in Kolkata, Malda and South 24 Parganas districts.
