For the first time, scientists from the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have planted hing saplings in Himachal Pradesh’s Kwaring village.

Individual farmers, farmers' collectives and NRIs in Himachal Pradesh are taking to organic farming in a big way for good health, safe soil and groundwater for future generations.

Proposed in 1983 and launched in 2010, this 8.8 km tunnel is deemed the country’s longest. With only four metres left to be excavated in the middle of the tunnel, starting from Dhundi in Kullu district and ending at Gufa Hotel, near Sissu, in Lahaul-Spiti district, the tunnel is ‘almost on the brink of completion’ after a delay of over three years.

Over two decades ago Himachal Pradesh discovered the potential of a little known deciduous plant called seabuckthorn. Today, the cultivation of plant is laying the foundation for sustainable development in the state's high-altitude cold deserts.
