This is the story of thousands of kids studying in government schools in Bengaluru. The first-generation school-goers. The children of migrant and daily wage labourers who were empowered with wings to soar to their dreams, by city-based NGO, Dream School Foundation.

Moitrayee’s journey to transform these kids began four years ago when she joined Kolkata-based NGO Maha Jiban.

While he cannot perform manual labour, Singh takes care of pretty much everything else—from deciding cropping patterns, monitoring the sowing, maintenance and harvest activities, overlooking the preparation of Jeevamrut and other biopesticides, and travelling to market his produce and training other farmers!

“I could not understand anything there since the classes were all in English and I completed my education from a Kannada medium background.”

“It was very early on in life that I developed an interest in swimming. I remember there were so many villagers who would ask me how and why I am swimming but it was something that I enjoyed doing and therefore continued with it,” he recollects.

“I was born in a family in Nizamabad with no financial means to support me at all. Very early on in life, I realised that I would have to fend for myself and also help my family in whatever way I could.”
