“The problem was that the grow bags that I used started decaying in just a few months. I wanted to create something that could last for years," explains Eyo, a fourth-generation farmer.

It was during a trip that Suhani, for the first time, saw the Bandhwari landfill and was shocked at its state. When Suhani read up on the various kinds of plastics she became alarmed at the statistics about the non-recyclable MLP.

“It can be used to cut branches, douse fires in very high places by the fire department and even save someone who is drowning – there are multiple uses for it,” says the former professor at Kerala Agricultural University.

“Since many of such classroom projects never get this sort of exposure, I decided to enter the competition. Even if it would get some visibility, I knew I would get some collaborators to work with and that was basically my main intent.”
