The Better India (TBI) spoke to Asheesh Singh (IAS, 2010 batch/Madhya Pradesh Cadre), the Municipal Commissioner of Indore, about the responsibilities he carries out on any given day.
While he completed his school education with the help of the pension, it was when his grandfather passed away that Shashank finally found out just how expensive a college education was.
"I have lived here (the public toilet quarters) for about 12 years. My father earned about Rs 6000-7000 which supported our home. The conditions were bad, but I never gave up on playing."
"From my very first childhood memories, I remember two things—going to the park with my grandfather and going to my small town airport with my dad every Sunday, just to watch airplanes take off and land."
