Following a meeting with Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani, where zonal heads brought the issue of being understaffed to light on November 24, the Railways may soon speed up its recruitment process.

In a move to help passengers travel safely late night after the New Year's Eve celebrations, Railway authorities in each of the Tier One cities have decided to run special trains with extended time periods than usual.

Reading reports of sub-standard food served onboard trains in India is almost everyday news. To change this, the Indian Railways is now in talks with Nestle to provide passengers with pre-packaged menu instead of the freshly cooked food that is currently being served on trains.

These coal mines produce over 5,700 lakh cusecs of water every year, of which they utilise 2,589 lakh cusecs for their own use such as at coal washeries and for agricultural purposes and supply 1,091 lakh cusecs to local communities around the mines. Even after all this, they end up with a surplus of around 2,036.5 lakh cusec per year.

India has a total of 16 railway zones, which are evaluated twice in a year.

On 22nd December India witnessed a landmark train journey.

The Railways implemented a number of innovative measures.

The first train is most likely to run between Delhi-Lucknow or Delhi-Chandigarh.

The proposed university will be managed by a Ministry of Railways created non-profit company under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
