India’s new pollution control vessel, Samudra Pratap, is designed to respond to oil spills far from shore, where damage usually begins. Built in Goa with indigenous technology, it focuses on early containment—protecting fishing grounds, coastal ecosystems, and the livelihoods that depend on clean seas.

While the Cyclone named ‘Ockhi’ meaning ‘eye’ in Bengali may have brought out several brave rescue stories in the last few days, the fact that till date there is no set mechanism to track fishermen stranded in the sea is what needs to be addressed.

The Olive Ridley turtles have a new hero. The Indian Coast Guard's operation will ensure these turtles are able to breed without the intrusion of fishing vessels.
