It was during a trip that Suhani, for the first time, saw the Bandhwari landfill and was shocked at its state. When Suhani read up on the various kinds of plastics she became alarmed at the statistics about the non-recyclable MLP.

“What motivated me to begin this organisation was the widespread lack of understanding about basic concepts like personal hygiene and first aid responses amongst villagers. To improve the situation, I started Shri Sahayataa which provided villagers with a personalised primary healthcare kit and education about the essential concepts such as first aid and hygiene etc,” shares Rohan.

The Durga Puja pandal by the Indraprastha Matri Mandir Nirman Society at Aradhana Park in IP Extension has gone further and used recycled items sourced from junkyards and scrap dealers. With gas cylinders for heads and steel scrap for bodies, the idols are accompanied with decorations made from used bulbs and soft drink cans.
