Every year, he exports close to six tonnes of ginger and turmeric (fresh and processed) to the US and countries in Europe. Moreover, he has trained over 200 farmers in the region.
"She started with almost nothing. She fills my heart with pride every single day. Everyone in the village feels that way," says her farmer father, who earns a dollar a day.
“It might have seemed like a crazy idea to many in the beginning but now they see the reality and the potential cultivating this has. I am glad I could be one of the few to bring that to light. After all it only takes one crazy idea to start a new wave of change,"
"I remember my grandfather—a farmer—telling me that my generation wasn't resilient enough to practice farming. Those words made me take it up as a challenge," says Saniha.
"My goal has always been to spread a bit of sweetness in the world. And what better way to do so than with mangoes!" says the 80-year-old farmer who has created a mind-boggling 1600 varieties of mango.
From the tall Assam Plantain to the short ‘Jahanji,’ Vinod’s farm is home to over 430 varieties of bananas today. International varieties like the lady’s finger banana, red banana and the blue java are also members of the farm.
