The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in acknowledging that math is a "difficult" subject that instils a "sense of fear" in many students. It is proposing to bring about two levels of mathematics for the academic session ending March 2020.

“It is extremely important for aspirants to be prepared for the failures and the learnings that come with it. One would rather do something and regret the failure, rather than not doing it and regretting that.”

Prior to this, a number of students had approached the Delhi High Court, aggrieved by the changes in the admission criteria. However, the Delhi HC held the MCI norms to be “legal and valid”.

The circular also states that this freedom of choice will be given in both oral and practical exams
