The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in acknowledging that math is a "difficult" subject that instils a "sense of fear" in many students. It is proposing to bring about two levels of mathematics for the academic session ending March 2020.

Prior to this, a number of students had approached the Delhi High Court, aggrieved by the changes in the admission criteria. However, the Delhi HC held the MCI norms to be “legal and valid”.

These engineering degrees of students through distance learning from 4 universities, including JRN Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Rajasthan, Allahabad Agricultural Institute (AAI) and Vinayaka Mission's Research Foundation, Tamil Nadu, will stand suspended.
