Durga Puja

The selected sex workers will be trained from Tuesday right up to the Puja week. This will enable them to run the stalls - right from cutting the fish and cooking it to serving the customers.

A radio station is running a campaign called “Ticket to Durga Puja — Pardes to Swades”, to reunite families with distant relatives who cannot afford to take a flight back home.

This year, many people have decided to celebrate the festival of Durga Puja with a theme of women empowerment. Several pandals have been set up to depict the true essence of goddess Durga and women power.

For the first time in the history of Durga Puja, people will worship a transgender Durga idol that has been inspired from Shiva's Ardhanarishvara (half man and half woman) avatar – an attempt at including the marginalised transgender community in the Puja celebrations.
