Dr Subodh Kumar Singh from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, founded Gyan Singh Memorial hospital. With the support of USA-based NGO Smile Train, he offers free cleft surgeries to newborns.

Pame was appointed as an Election Observer in the Lunglei district of Mizoram. Here, he met Lalrindika, a young boy born with a cleft palate. Lalrindika hails from the remote village of Zehtat, and his family is not very well off.

As they neared the source of the sound, a sad sight shook him. A newborn barely hours old, lay bleeding near the rivulet, covered with ants. Abandoning the procession, Dharmendra cleaned the child with a cloth and bundled the newborn in his arms to take him home.
