In Goa, 25 women and a civil engineer came together to build an 18-foot Christmas tree made entirely of crocheted yarn. Created by The Crochet Collective, the installation revives a fading craft, centres women’s labour, and offers a sustainable alternative to plastic-heavy festive décor.
The installation consists of a Christmas tree made of bamboo sticks and PVC pipes, a snowman made from old tyres, Santa Claus made using an old water tank, a sleigh made using a large cable spool, and a reindeer made of fallen tree barks.
Alan is a student of Class 9 and a resident of Ambalavayal, a village in the Wayanad district. This festive season, he decided to grow a Christmas tree instead of merely decorating one.
