Disappointed with news about the quality of vegetables grown on the Yamuna river banks, Shashank Dubey started to grow veggies on his terrace using aquaponics. Today, he grows around 2,500 varieties of plants.

11 years ago, when he was working in the field, he was bitten by a snake. For more than an hour, the bite was undetected, till he collapsed on the field and couldn’t raise his arm.

They are not the heroes we deserve, but the ones we need, especially at a time when our insatiable needs are eradicating almost all large forms of life on the planet.
