Centre for Railway Information Systems

Developed by CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) in collaboration with ISRO, the RTIS device installed in the locomotive will detect the position and speed of trains with the help of ISRO-developed GAGAN geo-positioning system.

The seats that are already booked will be marked in a different colour, just like in buses and trains. Passengers will also have the option to choose their berths/seats! #IndianRailways #IRCTC

A similar provision was incorporated in April 2016, however that failed as it required tickets to be booked at railways stations. The new move allows the same through online bookings.

The passenger-friendly provision has been developed by Centre for Railway Information Systems, which is IT handle of the Railways.

In the next few months, Kolkata Metro will be introducing a mobile-based ticketing system for faster and hassle-free transactions for commuters.
