Taking inspiration from our rich traditional architecture for designing homes will not only make them eco-friendly but also impart them with a distinct cultural identity.

Satish Kumar launched SnPc Machines, a Haryana-based startup that has built a unique, fully-automated, brick making machine. SnPC machines received the National Startup Award from the Government of India.

Inspired by William Laurie Baker, Maharashtra-based ABHA Architecture, by Praveen and Vidya, uses eco-conscious material palettes and passive cooling strategies to build cost-effective, durable and disaster-resistant homes.

While conventional bricks tend to disintegrate when divided into smaller sizes, Rhino bricks retain their shape and strength even if a hole were drilled in the middle.

“Did you know that the conventional red clay bricks can be the cause of soil erosion? Our Wricks can help solve it. If we happen to sell 10 lakh of those, it will be able to recycle 2,50,000 kg of waste materials!”

If this innovation is put to use, it could help solve the concrete waste problem in the city which generates over 1,200 tonnes of C&D waste every day.

Abraham hopes that his house will inspire others to create without harming the environment, and return to their roots.
