US-based Kapil Sharma, originally from Raipur, founded 'SayTrees', a non-profit dedicated to urban and rural afforestation and lake rejuvenation. Since its inception, SayTrees has planted trees and revitalised lakes and wells in Bengaluru and Pune.

The problem of cleaning up the lakes to acquire drinking water, they discovered, did not just lie with tackling pollution but in the lack of awareness about the condition.
It took the team about ten years to clean 160 acres of the lake and its surroundings. But the process, as well as the end result, was deeply satisfying.
Once a deserted swamp with murky water, the lake has now been restored to its full glory with a variety of local and migratory birds, various fish species and reptiles, medicinal plants and fruit-bearing trees gracing its ecosystem.
