Flight Lieutenant Nachiketa is one of the very few IAF pilots to have returned after his aircraft crashed in enemy territory. He was shot down by the Pakistani Army on May 28, 1999

Giving his unit the valuable time to capture the crucial Point 4812, Lt Nongrum charged through the fire zone, single-handedly destroying bunkers and killing six enemy soldiers. Even after being severely injured, he chose to fight till his last breath and succumbed to his injuries on the battlefield.

These brave women pilots flew dozens of helicopter sorties through the Kargil war zone to air-drop supplies to troops and evacuate injured Indian Army soldiers.
