“The man was about 35 years old and the woman, about 22 years old when they were buried. We saw no signs of lesion or injury on either of the skeletons, which led us to conclude that they died of natural causes and were not killed—at least violently.”

“The petroglyphs… may be carved by our ancestors in the Neolithic Age, that is 7000-4000 BC. It is very hard to determine the exact period, but these petroglyphs are carved using metal tools, so that is one way of determining the period (of origin).”

The ship, about 100-metres-long and 50-metres-wide, had sunk about 12 metres below the surface. Divers found remains of Indian spices, peppercorns and cowrie shells in it.

These particular findings are the much-awaited results of an excavation conducted in 2015 by a team led by Dr Vasant Shinde, an archaeologist and Vice-Chancellor of Pune's Deccan College.

The type of tools were thought to have been brought to India around 1,25,000 years ago. But luminescence dating puts these tools at 3,85,000 years back; shifting the timeline about 2,60,000 years.
