The UNICEF's report titled State of the World's Children 2017: Children in a digital world highlights how the internet in India is still a gender-based privilege, a ‘male bastion’ or ‘male preserve.’

In a move to bridge this gap and make internet accessible to the strata of society that usually is the last to get any benefits, the government has decided to make Wi-Fi available across the nation by setting up over 7.5 lakh public-internet hotspots by the end of 2018.

A radio repairman turned broadcaster, Raghav Mahto helped set up a community radio station in Tilonia in 2009. RJ Norat Mal now uses the power of the Internet to find and deliver content that helps create awareness about the villagers' rights and provides information about government schemes.
