The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will now train railway staff to provide medical attention to travellers who might need urgent medical attention.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) centred in Guwahati, has deployed the country’s first ever all-women gang for the railway coach and pit line maintenance.
The suggestion of adding a ‘service captain’, identifiable by uniform, in trains to address problems of passengers was made by a committee of senior officers formed by railway minister Piyush Goyal - after meeting with all zonal heads in December last year.
This project was implemented on a railway engine which was due for its mid-life rehabilitation. Traction motors, bogies and chassis were retained from the older diesel version.
"If 'ladies quota' berths are left vacant, the on-board ticket checking staff shall be authorised to allot this accommodation to any other lady passenger/senior citizen."
With a much higher hike in the budget allocated for track safety, this year, Railways are looking at some big changes to improve security on the tracks!
The decision was taken after a trial run, where the railway supervisors found a 66 per cent increment in earnings from penalties and fines by the end of the day!
