Several widows in Uttarakhand are working hard to make ends meet after the deadly floods of 2013. From working at flour mills, to becoming expert knitter – these strong women are doing their best to restore a sense of normalcy in their lives.

Across Chamoli district in Uttarakhand, a tree plantation initiative, called Maiti Andolan , has established itself as a workable solution for environmental protection as well as promoting the welfare of girls.

Nearly 50,000 people of some 133 villages in Uttarakhand don’t have to worry about walking long distances to arrange water for household chores any more. Thanks to one project that created access to potable water in the state.
