“When I realised I was pregnant, the first feeling was of fear. I was afraid of the world and how it would receive or treat my child. People around me kept pushing me towards abortion. They said that I was not fit to be a mother. But, who are they to tell me if I will be a good mother or not?"

This #MothersDay, we celebrate the pure awesomeness and inspiration that are India's #SuperMoms. "She is our best friend, our mother, our father, our god, our everything! The amount of unconditional love that she has showered on us is immeasurable," says one of her daughters.

Much in the news of late, this herbal concoction has borne witness to more than 100 years of subcontinental history, including Partition.

“Fortunately or unfortunately, I am not like other girls of my age. I can’t be. While they could live carefree lives without the care of the world or of money, I had to put my head down and bury myself in books. But it helped me focus on my education, because changing the fate of my family has always been my first priority!”

"I have two elder sisters who were brilliant in studies. Sadly, they were were married off when they were in Class 9. It was heartbreaking to see how their marriages turned out. It scared me, but it also pushed me to work harder and do better."

There can be numerous reasons not to step out of our houses, stand in the queue, get our finger inked and exercise our right to vote, but there is only one reason for it -- to be heard.

"During the winters, most families here create bonfires out of plastic waste and huddle in front of it to beat the cold. We wanted to change that and so started to encourage our students to bring plastic waste as school fees."

“I would remain unfit for such an award till the flesh and blood of Mother India, in the form of precious topsoil from the Himalayas, flows down to the sea due to tree felling,” says the visionary man, explaining his rejection of the Padma Vibhushan award in 1981.
