Diagnosed with a rare eye disease that robbed her of her vision at the age of 35, Bengaluru-based Bhumika’s life took a drastic turn as she grappled with the challenges of navigating a sightless world. The disease responsible for her blindness was optical neuritis, which affects only one in five lakh people.

The initial shock of losing her vision plunged her into a deep abyss of despair and depression. Simple tasks became monumental challenges as she had to relearn everything from scratch — even walking, reading, and writing.

However, amidst the darkness that threatened to engulf her, there was one flicker of hope that shone brightly — her love for cooking!

Cooking had always been Bhumika’s passion, a creative outlet where she could express herself and bring joy to others through her culinary creations. Her unique style focuses on preparing meals with minimal ingredients, making her recipes especially popular among bachelors and those with busy lifestyles.

However, with her disability, the kitchen became a daunting battlefield where every utensil and ingredient seemed to conspire against her. People around her, concerned for her safety, urged her to stay away from the kitchen.

Encouraged by her husband Sudarshan’s belief in her abilities, Bhumika sought out new adaptive techniques from other visually impaired individuals who had successfully navigated the culinary landscape. Sudarshan has been the backbone of her work, shooting and editing all her cooking videos, ensuring her passion reaches a growing audience.
