This Bold and Unapologetic New Trailer of 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' Is a Must-Watch

The film Lipstick under my Burkha has been in the limelight ever since its first trailer was released in October last year.

And unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons.

While the trailer dealt with women seeking flight from the expectations or rather restrictions by society and exploring freedom in their own ways, the concept did not go down quite well with the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC).

Calling the film ‘lady-oriented’ and fortified with sexual and abusive content, the film’s director Alankrita Shrivastava was refused certification by the board in January.

Prakash Jha, the film’s producer, wasn’t going to keep calm and appealed to the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT), which has finally awarded the film an adult certificate.

Despite facing backlash from the censor board and various religious communities, the film has been garnering rave reviews and has 10 international awards to its credit.

And now, the makers of the film have come out with a rebellious new poster a week back, closely followed by a trailer that goes by the tagline, “The film they didn’t want you to see”.

With an unapologetic note and bolder visuals -- everything the film board had denied the certification for; the new trailer openly questions some of the most rigid constructs that have been imposed on women and what would happen, if they choose not to remain confined.

The film is slated to hit the Indian screens on July 21.
