This ‘Dehati Madam’ teaches spoken English to millions on YouTube!
Living in Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh, Yashoda Lodhi could only study till Class 12.
Her husband, a daily wage labourer had an accident amid the pandemic.
This led to many financial problems for the family.
A quest to earn money to support her family led her to learn how to make videos on YouTube.
She then started the ‘English With Dehati Madam’ channel on YouTube, where she started teaching spoken English and grammar.
The concept of a village woman — dressed in a sari and a bindi, and taking English lessons, struck a chord with the audience.
As Yashoda said in an interview, “The fact that I am a villager should not mean that I cannot speak English.”
In less than two years, Yashoda has amassed over 3 lakh subscribers
and nearly 3 crore views!
She also earns about 70-80K a month.
Her success reflects the power of the internet to empower individuals from all walks of life.
